ABOUT US

ABOUT US

First of all, welcome and thank you for exploring our blog/website! We are UCL iGEM 2016 team, hoping to bring you posts about our journey as an iGEMer and what we have learnt during the process, developments in our project and importantly, our tips to a successful iGEM team. We also hope to share some essential synthetic biology knowledge required for an iGEM team (under the Synthetic biology tab)! iGEM is an international competition celebrating the possibilies of synthetic biology. Synthetic biology is the study of using genetically modified organisms such as bacteria - to carry out a desired output that we can utilise. For example, we can genetically engineer bacteria to produce light, that can be used to light up lamps.

Our project is about using synthetic biology to promote healthy ageing. Not necessary increasing length of life, but increasing the healthy lifespan. Currently, we are still developing the specifics of our project as we have just started this project but we are exited to dive deep into the possibilities that this research could lead to for human existance! DONT FORGET to fill out this survey about public perception of synthetic biology and our project!

OUR PROJECT

OUR PROJECT

BACTERIOFILLER

We are also thinking about tackling the outer circle of ageing, the issues faced by us, as a age. Such finding ways to combat tooth decay

STI LUBE DETECTORS

Did you know that STI is a major issue among the elderly! We are aiming to use synthetic biology to tackle issues with STI as we age.

OXIDATIVE STRESS MOP

Oxidative stress underlies many of the health problems of ageing so we will develop a number of free radical mopping devices.
